New Town, New Things

Ok I think I am finally settled enough to get back on track with my writing. Lots of things have happened since July. I am now working and living in Norfolk, Virginia at the CBS affiliate. The new job is going well. It challenges me daily but each day I just remind myself that God will never give me more than I can handle. I have also found a wonderful church and friends, which has helped so much as I continue to strengthen my relationship with God. I am singing and smiling more, which is always a major bonus. This is a shot of some of my apartment this Christmas.

I think I moved here at the wrong time though because I really haven't got a lot of time to explore Hampton Roads, as the area is called. My review so far... good food, lots of shops and stores to explore, bad traffic and potholes, wonderful multi-seasonal weather, and plenty of different scenery nearby. I hope to go to one of the nearby ski places before Spring hits but I am afraid I'm almost out of time.

Christmas was a crazy experience. Being the new producer I didn't really get a lot of time off. So I made plans accordingly - but the weather had other things in mind. Got home on Friday afternoon after working that morning. On Sunday morning my boss called to ask about my flight, others had been canceled. I found out mine was too, got booked on another flight, and got ready for church. As soon as the sermon started I got another call - my second flight was canceled. We tried again but that one was eventually canceled. Finally got me on a flight to D.C. where I booked an Amtrak ticket to Newport News. The train was delayed 2.5 hours but I eventually got into Hampton Roads. Only problem, my car was at the Norfolk Airport. Thankfully my friend from church, Jen, came and got me and took me home. I dug out my car the next day. It was snowed in at the airport parking lot. I literally lived planes, trains, and automobiles. The photo is from my time at Union Station, a fun place, but even I got bored.

On the 21st my niece, Emily Catherine, turned one. Such a bittersweet moment but she was just as cute as ever. Since moving I really don't get to visit her as much but I still try to skype as often as possible.

I've also started painting and sketching more. It's kind of become a regular thing to sketch a little at night. Maybe one of these days I will get brave enough to post some of my work on here. For now I will keep these secrets to myself. :)
